SUBMISSION FOR VIMJAM 2020

Ranked out of  465 entries

Play as a cute kid transported to a world of imagination while trying to escape from her greatest enemy! While there, she will COLLECT the powers of various copyright friendly costumes and build confidence in herself until she can ultimately return to her home, confront the enemy, and make it THERE AND BACK AGAIN

The game is playable to completion between 5-15 minutes and it's not terribly hard. The ending is my favorite part so I hope you get to see it! I will include a dev log with hints if you need help progressing!

If you're looking for secrets (i.e. hidden rooms), try investigating the main villain a little more :)

All artwork, music, code and sound effects were created specifically for this jam. My main focus for this jam was POLISH. I wanted to make a condensed version of a game that you might see published. Overall, I'm incredibly proud of what I've put together.

Controller support is enabled as well, though it was a last minute addition so it doesn't say in the game. On an xbox controller use the following: A - Jump, B - Change costume, X - Special move, Analog stick moves.

Check out my devlog if you want to see how I made it!

Best game ever

thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.

I really think you should make a sequel!

thanks! I’ve thought about how I might do that and it may definitely be in the cards at some point.

Cringiest ending, but from ~10 games I've tried from the jam, this is the best. Kudos!!

Sorry you didn't like the ending, but thanks for playing!

This looks like it will be fun if you finish it! I enjoyed what I managed to play before crashing (yes I read your warning, but did I listen? lmao) it was pretty good all around.

Lovely little gem you have made. Took me a while to buy the first costume so i can progress, i initially though i had to press a button for some reason.

I think the main music is slightly too loud, i would tone it down a bit.
The controls were easy and smooth.
The enemies were accesible to dodge. I liked the telegraphed moves.

The music was cute and appropriate to the teme.

Nice implementation of going back to the shop always for new costumes.

I liked the idea of the costumes. It made me be on my toes as to "what will I unlock next?" !

Thanks for creating this and good luck with next endeavours!
Also kind thanks for reviewing our entry !

Thanks so much for your detailed review! And you’re completely right about the music, I noticed almost immediately after the submissions closed :(

Loved the game. I love simple metroidvania games, the platforming felt comforatable, each upgrade worked well, and it was quick and easy to switch between them all.

Thanks so much for playing it! I'm a sucker for cute metroidvanias too, we've definitely got that in common!

The HTML version is working a treat! Played to the end, wonderful little game. The costume changing mechanic is fun and makes intuitive sense. The level design had some though put into it and made for a nice little challenge without being frustrating. And a nice story arc conclusion at the end with a heart warming message. Love it, really impressive, especially since you made all the assets and music yourself. Great work!

Also literally just caught myself whistling the tune

Hmm getting a bug where it doesn't display correctly on Windows? See screenshot

Thanks for sharing! I wish I had a better idea of how to fix this in the short time left...scaling problems are the bane of my existence.

I also just added an HTML version of the game, so that should resolve any scaling issues! I hope at least. Let me know if you're still having problems :)

Love the game so far. Just a heads up pressing Back in the credits menu doesn't work for me

also consider checking out my game (download if possible it is less buggy)

Game

Thanks! I think there was a big bug in the initial version I uploaded due to some debug controls I forgot to turn off. It should all be fixed. I appreciate you playing!

Hey, I really liked it, the costumes and the abilities, I collected 3 costumes but then I couldn't continue, I didnt know what to do, I probably missed something for turning of those lasers or jumping very high.

Hey thanks for playing! So you can use the ninja teleport to pass through the lasers. Give it another shot if you can!

There seems to be an error at the start of the game which returns the following

"

thanks a ton! So glad you caught that before submission
